The Local, Legal Allies You Want In Your Corner

3 ways to find support when going through a divorce

It’s not easy grieving the end of a marriage while going through several life changes, including moving to a new home or living alone in the family home, seeing your children on scheduled days and so on. Thus, it’s crucial to find support. You don’t need to go through a divorce alone

Here are three ways you can find support:

1. Spend time with family and friends

Although your loved ones may want to help you, they may not know what you want. They may visit you but not invite you to coffee dates, evening walks or concerts because they are unsure if you are ready to go out. It’s important to actively reach out to your family and friends to tell them to include you in activities. And when you need to talk about your feelings, inform them as well.

2. Connect with your weak ties

Chances are you have weak ties (casual acquaintances or people you have loose connections with). These include the barista at your local coffee shop, a neighbor you occasionally talk to, someone you always see at the bus stop or a fellow parent at your child’s school.

Speaking with them can substantially help your social life. The barista at your local shop may be a singer who has performances every Friday, the fellow parent at your child’s school may be a part of a book club and so on.

You can create meaningful connections by simply going beyond small talks with these parties.

3. Join a support group

A local support group can give you access to a community that understands what you are going through. You can also join online groups to learn from people from different parts with unique experiences.

Finding support can make your divorce more manageable. Learning more about the process and your case is also crucial.
